All through high school, Meredith Feinman of Charlotte Court House, Virginia, was enrolled in college classes at Southside Virginia Community College.  She attended Randolph-Henry High School from 2013 to 2017 and during her sophomore year, decided to take The Governor’s School of Southside Virginia (GSSV) test and was accepted into the program. For the next two years,  Meredith attended GSSV classes on SVCC’s John H. Daniel campus.

“There was definitely a transition period when I got to Governor’s School where I had to learn to manage my time extremely wisely. The amount and expected quality of work had increased compared to my high school classes, and I wanted to still have time for the extracurricular activities I was involved in,” she said.

Meredith was in the Humanities strand of the program and stated, “Since leaving Governor’s School, I’ve rarely had teachers that truly care about and support their students like my GSSV teachers did.”

After graduating from SVCC in 2017 with her Associate degree of Arts and Science, general studies, with highest honors, Meredith began attending James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

She said, “Governor’s School and my dual enrollment classes really prepared me for a four-year university. Because of the credits I was able to transfer, I was in classes with juniors and seniors my first semester, and I felt confident. I knew how to study effectively, and I knew how to manage my time.”

Due to transferred credits form SVCC, Meredith graduated from JMU in just two years.  In May of this year, she received  a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, in Communication Studies and a minor in General Business.

Meredith has been accepted into, and will attend, JMU’s Graduate Program for Communication and Advocacy. She also will be working as a graduate assistant in the Communication department during the first year of her program, and she will teach classes for the department during the second year. Meredith is currently interning in SVCC’s Public Relations office and is looking forward to returning to JMU in the fall.

Her parents are Shannon and Steve Feinman.
