Boyce Carmines Wornom, 91, longtime resident of Emporia, died on July 1, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home at Lakewood-Westend in Richmond.

Born on January 10, 1928 in Poquoson, he was the son of Etta Carmines Wornom and William Gibbs Wornom. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edgar Wornom and Hugh Wornom; sister Eloise Henderson; and daughter Barbara and her husband Samuel Adams.

Mr. Wornom is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Flowers Wornom; daughters Debora Williams of Millwood, Patricia and husband Frederic Gresset of Charlotte NC, Lynda and husband Ross Wright of Ashland; grandchildren Ashton Williams and wife Shelley, Boyce Adams and wife Katie, Anne Williams and husband Matt Peterson, William Adams and wife Whitney, Henri Gresset, Jacques Gresset and wife Kelsey, Ross Wright and wife Sarah, Elliott Wright, Alice Gresset, Owen Wright; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Wendell Wornom and wife Betty, Gerald Wornom and wife Nancy, Stephen Wornom and wife Marie-Jo, Ray Wornom, and many nieces and nephews.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Wornom graduated from the University of Richmond and the T. C. Williams School of Law. He practiced law for over 55 years and was a member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association, Richmond Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Eastern District of Virginia Federal Court, and the Sixth Judicial Circuit Bar of Virginia.

Mr. Wornom was a member of Main Street Baptist Church of Emporia for over six decades where he served for many years as a Deacon, Trustee and Church Moderator, as well as a Sunday School teacher for men. He was a member of the Emporia Rotary Club for over 50 years where he served as president and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He was also recognized for his many years of service as a member of the Board of Directors of Greensville Memorial Hospital in Emporia.

Mr. Wornom had a life-long love of flying and was a pilot for over 40 years. His four decades of service as Chairman of the Emporia-Greensville Airport Commission was recognized in 2015 with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Virginia Department of Aviation. His other interests included tennis, biking, and singing and playing the guitar with family and friends. He was a founding member of the Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville and was dedicated to physical fitness even into his 90s.

A funeral service will be held at Main Street Baptist Church in Emporia on Saturday, July 6 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family YMCA of Emporia-Greensville or Main Street Baptist Church.
