Harold Terens, a 100-year-old U.S. World War II veteran, recently tied the knot with his 96-year-old sweetheart in Normandy amidst the 80th-anniversary commemoration of D-Day. During the wedding, the couple raised a toast to “peace in the world and the preservation of democracy all over the world and the end of the war in Ukraine and Gaza.” Jeanne Swerlin, the bride, emphasized that love knows no age limits and that both of them still get butterflies and a little action. The wedding took place in Carentan, which was a site of fierce fighting after the Allied invasion of France in June 1944, as depicted in the famous HBO series, Band of Brothers. Following the wedding, the newlyweds, who are both native New Yorkers, traveled to Paris for the state dinner on Saturday. Terens jokingly mentioned to the Washington Post that he felt a bit jealous when President Joe Biden hugged Swerlin for a few seconds during the event.
