Tom Bower, an actor known for his roles in “The Waltons” and “Die Hard 2,” has died.
The longtime character actor died of unexplained circumstances at his Los Angeles home this week, according to his brother, Robert Bower, who spoke with THR. We have yet to establish the specific circumstances surrounding his death.
Before making it big, Bower studied acting at the John Cassavetes Shadows Workshop… and then spent 15 years as a private detective before making his acting debut in 1972 with “The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel,” alongside Al Pacino.
From the 1982 Western “The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez” to 2009’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” Bower’s career spanned five decades and included outstanding performances in a variety of genres.
Bower truly made his mark with his appearance in 1990’s “Die Hard 2,” in which his character assisted Bruce Willis’ role, John McClane, in stopping terrorists at an airport. His portrayal of Dr. Curtis Willard on “The Waltons” garnered him widespread recognition.
Other notable films he’s appeared in include “Nixon,” “A Clear and Present Danger,” “American Me,” “Raising Cain,” “Beverly Hills Cop II,” “The Negotiator,” “Hearts in Atlantis,” and many more.
His television credits are spectacular, with roles in “The Office,” “The West Wing,” “Dallas,” “Hill Street Blues,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Barnaby Jones,” “Kojak,” and numerous other classics.
Bower was 86.
