The boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has a new date.
Tyson’s health concerns forced the rescheduling of the match between the former heavyweight champion and YouTuber turned prizefighter from July 20 to November 15 at AT&T Stadium.
The co-main event on November 15 will also be the much-awaited rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship.
Co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions Nakisa Bidarian said in a statement, “Our team has worked diligently with all parties involved to reschedule this monumental fight to a date that ensures both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are fully prepared, with equal training time, as well as allowing us to keep the event at AT&T Stadium in the middle of the Cowboys season.” “We are grateful for Netflix and AT&T Stadium’s exceptional commitment, teamwork, and adaptability. Paul vs. Tyson is the greatest cross-generational sporting event in history, and we’re committed to providing boxing fans worldwide with an incredible boxing experience, streamed live on Netflix. Join us on Friday, November 15, for a confrontation that will leave a lasting impression.
The fact that Paul Tyson’s new date is a Friday rather than a Saturday, which is customary for important boxing matches, is sure to cause some controversy. On November 18, the Dallas Cowboys will play the Houston Texans on “Monday Night Football.” Therefore, a Friday match would allow the stadium to be ready for the Cowboys to play.
The NBA Finals had just ended and college football was still a month away; thus, the initial July date was free of the NFL season and faced minimal competition. However, Tyson needed medical assistance after experiencing an ulcer flare-up on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on May 26. The doctors told Tyson to reduce his training for several weeks until his condition recovered after a medical checkup, prompting him to reschedule the fight.
“Even if we have to postpone the bout, I will soon begin training again.” Tyson stated in a statement, “I am grateful to the medical staff that looked after me, and to MVP, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for their hard work in determining the best rescheduling date for all involved.” “Even if we have a new date, the outcome of our fight will remain the same. Jake Paul is about to lose consciousness.”
On June 30, Tyson will mark his 58th birthday. When Tyson and Paul enter the ring, their age difference will be the greatest in professional boxing history, at 31 years old. Additionally, it will have been more than 19 years since Tyson engaged in a professional fight. For the first time since stopping journeyman Ryan Bourland in the opening round in March, Paul, 27, will square off.
The women in the highly anticipated co-feature will face extended layoffs. Serrano, 35, hasn’t competed since defeating Danila Ramos in October to successfully defend her featherweight belts in the WBA, WBO, IBF, and The Ring. Serrano had scheduled a bout with Nina Meinke in Puerto Rico on December 21, but her eye injury rendered her “medically unfit” for the fight.
The 37-year-old Taylor last competed in November, winning by majority decision against Chantelle Cameron to claim the title of undisputed super lightweight champion after suffering her first professional defeat.
Regarding the fight between rising lightweight prospects Ashton “H2O” Sylve and Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield, or MMA star Darren Till’s professional boxing debut against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., there are no updates as to whether these bouts will still take place on the bill.
Netflix will broadcast the Paul-Tyson fight live as a professional match. The outcome will have an impact on both fighters’ credentials. This bout will feature eight rounds at heavyweight, each lasting two minutes.
We will accept tickets purchased in the past for November 15. Up until July 8, those who are unable to make the new date can get a refund at the place where they originally made the purchase.
