According to police, a dispute between migrant squatters and legal residents of an apartment building in the Bronx led to a shooting that resulted in the death of two individuals. The suspect, believed to be a migrant, is currently on the run.
Police are currently searching for Josue Ruben Silva, a 21-year-old individual with a substantial criminal record, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on May 24th.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Silva was part of a group of migrants who were squatting inside a building when one of the long-time residents, Claretha Daniels, 44, complained to her friends that one of the asylum seekers had disrespected her.
North Carolina’s House Judiciary has passed a bill aimed at speeding up the eviction of squatters. This bill will help landlords and property owners who have been struggling to remove squatters from their property. The new law will allow for a more efficient eviction process, which will save time and money. It is a significant step towards protecting the rights of property owners and ensuring that they have the support they need to remove unauthorized occupants from their property. The bill will now move on to the Senate for further review and approval.
Kenny explained that the long-time residents of the building have stepped up to assist her.
During a recent incident, a migrant got into a physical altercation with a tenant named Everett Slade. The migrant ended up on the losing end of the fight, and it was at this point that Silva, the chief, drew his gun and shot at them.
In regards to the shooting, Kenny mentioned that there had been a growing tension between the tenants and squatters beforehand.
According to witness accounts, a group of migrants has reportedly taken control of numerous apartments within the building,” he reported. “They have been residing there for the past six months, having forcibly entered abandoned and vacant units.”
According to an insider familiar with the case, The Post learned that Silva unlawfully crossed the US-Mexico border in May 2023 and was subsequently apprehended and taken to a shelter.
