The woman who caused the tragic deaths of two young boys in Los Angeles has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. As a socialite, she was responsible for the devastating accident that claimed the innocent lives, and now she must face the consequences of her actions.
During the sentencing, Rebecca Grossman pleaded with the judge to take her suffering into account. The statement was made just before the sentence was given.
In her defense, Grossman, who is 60 years old, stated that she is not a murderer. She also expressed remorse for the pain that her actions have caused not only her own family, but also the families of the two young victims. Grossman considers this pain to be a punishment that she is already enduring.
During a court hearing on Monday, the verdict was delivered to her that she had been found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder. The charges were related to the deaths of Mark Iskander, 11, and his younger brother Jacob Iskander, 8. The trial had lasted for six weeks, and she was finally convicted of the crimes.
According to reports, Grossman and her former beau, ex-Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson, were engaging in a reckless game of chicken. Apparently, the two had been imbibing cocktails at a local bar before the incident occurred.
In a letter addressed to Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino, which was obtained by The New York Post, Grossman vehemently denied being a murderer and urged others to acknowledge this truth.
“I feel the pain that Iskanders suffer, and I also witness my family going through it. This pain is my punishment, and it will stay with me for the rest of my life. I request you to keep this suffering in mind while deciding the further punishment for me in this case.”
According to her lawyers, she deserves probation as an alternative punishment.
Grossman expressed his empathy towards the parents of the boys, Nancy, and Karim Iskander, stating that he cannot even fathom the magnitude of their pain and suffering. He further added that he would bear the burden of his own agony for the entirety of his life.
According to the Daily Mail, the socialite had sent a strange letter to the Iskanders, where she expressed her regret and mentioned that she would have rather driven her car into a tree than face the tragedy.
Nancy Iskander, the mother of the boy, has contradicted the socialite’s claims by stating that she had treated her family as “the biggest enemy in the world”. According to Nancy, the socialite had fought to delay the sentencing on several occasions.
Iskander revealed that the socialite had employed several tactics, including introducing conflicts of interest, in a bid to postpone the hearing that had initially been slated for April 10th.
Last month, Ms Iskander spoke to Fox News Digital about the constant legal battle and struggle for justice. She expressed her frustration with the fact that every attempt to move forward is met with resistance from the legal system or Ms Grossman, bringing them back to the fight.
The situation is beyond terrible. The perpetrator has not displayed any remorse, nor has she exhibited any shred of compassion. It’s disheartening because there were ample opportunities for her to show mercy or plead guilty, which would have saved me from the agony of going back and forth to court. However, she chose to prolong the process, subjecting me to further trauma and torment.
“My family has given her numerous chances to demonstrate mercy, but she has consistently failed to do so. Instead, she has directed her hatred towards us, treating us as if we are her worst enemies.”
