Two men involved in a toddler’s fatal opioid overdose at a New York City daycare have pleaded guilty to narcotics charges and causing bodily damage, according to authorities.
According to authorities, the guys admitted to concealing fentanyl in the floorboards of a Bronx childcare playground.
Felix Herrera Garcia, 35, pleaded guilty Monday to three felony drug trafficking offenses, including narcotics possession with intent to distribute causing serious bodily harm. Prosecutors said Parras Paredes, 38, pleaded guilty to one comparable offense. Both males hail from the Bronx.
In September, Nicholas Dominici, a 22-month-old child at Divino NiƱo daycare, died from fentanyl overdose. Three more children survived when medics administered the overdose-reversing medication Narcan.
Following the overdoses, Herrera fled the United States and spent nearly two weeks on the run in Mexico before his capture. Authorities separately charged Herrera’s wife, suspected daycare operator, and one other person with murder, narcotics possession, and assault.
Prosecutors said Herrera and Paredes face a required minimum of 20 years in jail.
