While magnet fishing in a pond in Queens, a lucky couple from New York City stumbled upon a safe containing almost $100,000. It seems they may have hit the jackpot with their unexpected find.
While magnet fishing at a pond in Queens on Friday, James Kane and Barbie Agostini were able to capture a muddy safe. The duo, who often share their discoveries on social media, were amazed when they opened the safe to find hundreds of soaked bills inside. The bills are believed to be worth around $100,000. According to Spectrum News NY1, the couple was left in utter shock by their incredible find.
They also posted a video showcasing the muddy safe and the bills that suffered damage from being soaked in water.
During an interview with NY1, Kane mentioned that they had come across numerous old safes in the past, however, they had never discovered anything noteworthy until this particular instance. Agostini, on the other hand, had initially thought that Kane was joking when he revealed the contents of the safe.
Agostini told NY1 that when she saw the actual dollars and the security ribbons, she lost it.

Upon discovering the safe, the couple took the responsible step of contacting the NYPD to inquire about any legal obligations. Fortunately, it turned out that the owner of the safe, which was initially suspected to have been stolen, could not be identified. Therefore, the authorities gave the green light for the couple to keep the safe and all its contents.
According to Kane’s statement to NY1, the bills presented an issue as they were completely drenched and significantly damaged.
According to a statement by the NYPD, if found property is valued at ten dollars or more, it must be reported to and deposited with the police. The statement goes on to explain that in the case at hand, the alleged currency was so badly deteriorated that its value and authenticity could not be determined.
On their YouTube channel, the duo captures their discoveries which range from World War II grenades to 19th century firearms, a motorbike, and even a wallet filled with foreign coins, pearls, and gold jewelry.
