A downtown building situated at 417 Commercial Street, owned by Forde Gillett, LLC, is one of five projects in Kansas that has been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Residential Opportunities On Main Street (ROOMS) program.
This grant is part of the ROOMS initiative launched by the Kansas Department of Commerce (KDOC), designed to support the revitalization of historic buildings in urban areas.
Funding for Residential Development and Commercial Space
The ROOMS grant will provide partial funding for the transformation of the building’s upper level into six two-bedroom units and two one-bedroom units. These units will offer modern living spaces, contributing to the city’s growing demand for residential properties.
On the ground floor, the space will be designated for commercial use, supporting local businesses and economic growth in the area.
In addition to residential and commercial development, the building’s facade will undergo a facelift, enhancing its appearance and improving the overall aesthetic of the block.
This grant plays a pivotal role in revitalizing downtown Kansas while providing essential housing options and commercial space.
It exemplifies how the ROOMS program fosters urban development and strengthens the local economy through strategic investments in properties that offer a mix of residential and commercial opportunities.
