Kansas Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Red Sky

The Kansas women’s golf team showed great spirit and determination at the 2025 Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colorado. Competing against 20 strong teams, the Jayhawks made a big comeback on the final day and secured fifth place with a team score of 863 (-1).

What made the finish even more exciting was their 14-under-par final round, which helped them move up the leaderboard. Two Kansas players also ended up in the top 20 individually, making this one of the team’s most inspiring performances of the season.

Kansas Finishes Fifth Overall

The Red Sky Classic brought together some of the best college golf teams in the country. Kansas fought hard and placed among the top five. Below is how the top teams finished:

Head coach Lindsay Kuhle praised the players for their resilience, saying she was proud of how they fought back after a tough first round. She highlighted how each golfer contributed and made the comeback possible.

Standout Performances from Kansas

Lyla Louderbaugh’s Record Round

Junior Lyla Louderbaugh was the star of the final round. She scored an incredible 65 (-7) with nine birdies. This tied the second-lowest 18-hole score in Kansas women’s golf history and matched her personal best.

Louderbaugh finished with rounds of 76, 72, and 65, for a total of -3 overall, tying for 15th place. This marked her third top-20 finish of the season and the 12th of her career.

Amy DeKock’s Consistent Play

Senior Amy DeKock matched Louderbaugh as the team’s top finisher. She carded rounds of 73, 71, and 69 to also finish at -3 overall.

DeKock made six birdies in her final round and ended tied for 15th. This was her third top-20 finish of the season and the 14th of her career, showing her consistency and leadership.

Jillian Fatkin Steps Up

Sophomore Jillian Fatkin had her best performance on the last day. She shot a bogey-free 70, finishing with rounds of 75, 72, and 70 for a total of +1 overall. That effort placed her tied for 25th.

Strong Contributions from Others

  • Ebba Nordstedt, another sophomore, finished at +7 overall after rounds of 78, 75, and 70. She tied for 44th place.
  • Freshman Kinslea Jones gained valuable experience and closed with a 72 in her last round. She finished at +12 overall, tying for 66th place.

Coach Kuhle noted that the comeback showed the team’s character, culture, and fighting spirit. She believes this type of performance will prepare them well for the upcoming postseason.

What’s Next for Kansas?

The Jayhawks will return home to host the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at the Lawrence Country Club from October 6–7, 2025. Kansas will look to defend its title at this event and build on the confidence they gained at the Red Sky Classic.

The Kansas women’s golf team proved that setbacks don’t define them—they bounced back after a slow start to secure a top-five finish at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic.

With amazing rounds from Louderbaugh and DeKock, a strong showing by Fatkin, and solid contributions from Nordstedt and Jones, the Jayhawks demonstrated true teamwork.
