Hutchinson Police Say Wichita Boy Behind Airport Bomb Threat

The Hutchinson Police Department has confirmed that a bomb threat targeting Hutchinson Regional Airport was traced to a boy from Wichita.

Authorities did not reveal the juvenile’s age but described the caller, who left a voicemail about a bomb being placed on an airplane, as “a juvenile male.”

Lockdown and Flight Restrictions

Although the investigation later confirmed the threat was not credible, airport staff had already taken precautionary measures.

The airport was placed under lockdown, and both incoming and outgoing flights were temporarily halted to ensure safety.

Timeline of the Incident

According to officials, the threat was made a little before 11 p.m. on Thursday. Hutchinson Police officers responded to the report shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, initiating an immediate investigation.

Suspect Identified and Taken Into Custody

Police stated, “Investigators were ultimately able to identify a potential suspect. With the assistance of the Wichita Police Department, the juvenile and his parents were contacted in Wichita, Kansas.”

Following this, the boy was taken into custody by Hutchinson officers and transported to the Reno County Youth Shelter for further proceedings.

Legal Action and Charges

Authorities confirmed that charges of aggravated criminal threat have been referred to the Reno County District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation highlights the seriousness with which law enforcement treats threats against public facilities, even when found to be non-credible.

The Hutchinson airport bomb threat case demonstrates how swiftly law enforcement agencies respond to ensure public safety. Although the threat turned out to be false, the lockdown and flight delays reflect the importance of caution in such situations.

With the suspect now in custody and charges filed, the case serves as a reminder that making threats against public institutions carries serious legal consequences.
