Two Wichita Teen Girls Injured in Jet Ski Accident at Lake of the Ozarks

On Saturday evening, two teenage girls from Wichita, Kansas, were hospitalized following a jet ski collision at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

What Happened

According to crash records from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), at approximately 5:45 p.m., the two teens—aged 13 and 15—were each operating Sea-Doo Spark jet skis near the 58-mile marker along the lake’s Osage Arm.

While maneuvering, the 15-year-old rider side-swiped the jet ski driven by the 13-year-old, leading to both being ejected into the water.

Injuries and Response

  • The 13-year-old was transported to Lake Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
  • The 15-year-old was also hospitalized at the same facility, sustaining moderate injuries.
  • Both girls were wearing safety gear during operation.

As of now, the condition of the younger girl remains undisclosed.

A seemingly routine ride turned dangerous when two adolescent riders collided at Lake of the Ozarks—resulting in serious and moderate injuries for the 13- and 15-year-olds respectively.

Even though both were equipped with safety gear, the incident underlines how quickly aquatic recreation can become hazardous. Investigations are likely ongoing to determine what led to the side-swipe collision.
