In a heart-warming gesture, the Kansas City community has been asked to rally around 3-year-old Tucker Langford, who is battling a rare skin condition and a serious heart ailment.
Unable to partake in traditional trick-or-treating, his family is inviting residents to bring Halloween candy and smiles to his front porch, turning the holiday into a special event for Tucker.
The Story of Tucker
Tucker, a young boy living in the Northland area of Kansas City, was diagnosed with a rare skin disorder known as Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)—sometimes referred to as “butterfly skin” due to its fragility—and also faces a complicated heart condition.
He recently returned home from Children’s Mercy Hospital under hospice care because of his fragile health.
Just two weeks ago, a massive three-hour parade featuring firefighters, police, bikers, sports cars and helicopters filled the local streets in his honor. The event celebrated Tucker’s courageous journey and drew thousands of supporters.
Now, Tucker’s family has turned their focus to Halloween: since he cannot safely go door-to-door, they’re asking the city to bring the candy to him.
Tucker will sit on his front porch on Friday and Saturday evenings, at his home on Northeast 43rd Terrace in Kansas City, and awaits visitors who can drop off some of his favourite treats.
