Vince Gill Honored with Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 CMA Awards

Vince Gill was celebrated in grand fashion at the 59th Annual CMA Awards, where he received the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

The ceremony, broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, highlighted Gill’s decades-long contributions to country music, marked by heartfelt recognition, humorous moments, and touching tributes.

A Milestone Moment In Gill’s Legendary Career

Presented the award by George Strait, last year’s recipient, Gill became the 13th artist to earn this honor. Lightening the mood with a joke, Gill quipped that he was likely the only Lifetime Achievement winner to have never smoked weed, referencing the award’s namesake, Willie Nelson.

Gill fondly reflected on his 50-year friendship with Nelson, noting that what he admires most is Nelson’s devotion to including family in his journey.

Emotional Speech With Warm Tributes

During his acceptance speech, Gill shared appreciation for the many “families” who supported him, including:

  • His CMA family, who entrusted him to host the awards 12 consecutive times from 1992 to 2003.
  • His Grand Ole Opry colleagues and longtime management team.
  • His large and loving immediate family, naming each of his children and their partners.

Gill reserved the most heartfelt words for his wife, Amy Grant, calling her “the kindest soul I’ve ever known.”

He closed with a message for Nelson, praising the 92-year-old icon for continuing to inspire future generations.

Tribute Performance Lights Up The Stage

Before Gill received his award, Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless delivered a powerful performance of Gill’s signature hit “When I Call Your Name.” The song played a major role in Gill’s rise to fame after its release in 1990, earning:

Over the course of his career, Gill has:
