Small businesses in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood are anticipating a significant rise in customers as the annual Waldo Crawl kicks off this weekend.
Nearly 20 local shops will participate in the multi-day event, offering special promotions, activities, and unique shopping experiences.
Eclectic: A Long-Time Waldo Staple Joins the Celebration
One of the featured stops is Eclectic, a handmade gift boutique that has served the community for 34 years. Known for its diverse collection of handcrafted goods, the shop showcases work from nearly 60 local and regional artists, according to artist Lauri Davidson.

Customers visiting Eclectic can join a special in-store challenge. Anyone who discovers a hidden Waldo character earns a prize and is also entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Davidson noted that despite Eclectic’s long history, the shop sometimes goes unnoticed due to its location.
“Waldo is a smaller neighborhood, and we sit on a smaller corner, so at times it feels like we’re overlooked,” she said. Events like the Waldo Crawl provide valuable exposure and help attract both new and returning patrons.

“Our busiest months are usually November and December,” Davidson added. The event helps build momentum heading into those crucial sales weeks.

“New people walk through our doors almost every day, and with the crawl happening, we expect to see even more,” she shared.
