Former Kansas City–Area Teacher Faces Additional Federal Charges

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former elementary school educator who worked across several Kansas City–area school districts is now confronting significantly expanded federal charges following a new grand jury indictment that adds multiple child pornography allegations.

Superseding Indictment Filed in Federal Court

Federal court records show that Dennis Adlai Hernandez, 28, has been named in a 13-count superseding indictment filed this week in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

The updated indictment broadens the scope of the case and replaces earlier charging documents.

Six New Counts Added to Existing Charges

According to federal prosecutors, the latest indictment introduces six additional counts related to the production and attempted production of child pornography.

These new allegations are in addition to charges Hernandez was already facing, increasing both the seriousness and scale of the case.

Allegations Span Three Years and Multiple Victims

Prosecutors allege the offenses involved 12 minor victims and occurred over a three-year period, from August 2022 through August 2025.

The expanded indictment incorporates earlier allegations while outlining additional criminal conduct during that timeframe.

Original Charges Remain in Place

Before the superseding indictment, Hernandez had already been charged with seven federal counts, including:

  • Production and attempted production of child pornography
  • Transportation of child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography

All prior charges remain active and are now formally included within the updated indictment.

Employment History in Local School Districts

Court documents indicate that Hernandez briefly worked at Fairmount Elementary School within the Independence School District prior to his arrest.

He also spent several years employed as a substitute teacher and staff member in the North Kansas City School District, where he served at multiple elementary schools.

The superseding federal indictment significantly escalates the legal case against Dennis Adlai Hernandez, adding new charges that expand both the number of alleged offenses and the victims involved.

With allegations spanning multiple years and school districts, the case underscores the gravity of the accusations and marks a critical development as federal prosecutors move forward.
