Kansas City — On Sunday, demonstrators assembled at Mill Creek Park in the Country Club Plaza to express solidarity with the people of Iran.
Protests Continue During Internet Blackout
The gathering comes as large-scale demonstrations persist in Iran against a backdrop of economic strain and a sweeping internet shutdown.
Activists say the communication blackout has intensified the crisis by isolating citizens and limiting the flow of reliable information beyond the country’s borders.
Rally Focus: Human Rights and Communication Restrictions
Event organizers explained that the purpose of the rally was twofold: to draw attention to human rights concerns and to underscore how restrictions on digital and phone services have effectively silenced voices inside Iran.
With online platforms and even basic phone lines disrupted, advocates argue that global awareness depends on communities abroad speaking out.
Organizers Call for Global Amplification
“People there currently lack access to the internet, social media, and even phone lines—both mobile and landline,” said Merecedeh Tavacoli, who organized the event.
“That makes it our responsibility, wherever we are outside Iran, to amplify their voices and inform the world about what’s happening.”
Local Advocates Push for Peaceful Change
Residents, activists, and community leaders attended the demonstration to elevate international awareness and to advocate for peaceful solutions amid the ongoing unrest.
Participants emphasized that sustained global attention is essential while Iranians remain cut off from communication channels.
The Kansas City rally at Mill Creek Park served as a platform for local voices to echo the concerns of Iranians facing protests, economic challenges, and communication blackouts.
By gathering publicly and sharing firsthand perspectives from organizers, the event aimed to bridge the information gap and reinforce calls for human rights and peaceful change on a global stage.
