Stephens College, the nation’s second-oldest women’s college, recently ushered in a new era with the appointment of Dr. Shannon Lundeen as its 25th president.
The transition follows the esteemed tenure of President Dianne Lynch, who announced her retirement plans in May 2025 after 15 transformative years.
Dr. Shannon Lundeen: A Visionary Leader
Dr. Lundeen brings nearly two decades of experience in academic and administrative leadership.
Currently serving as the Vice President of Programs and Operations at Higher Education Resource Services (HERS), she has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to enhancing access and opportunity in higher education.
Her previous roles include significant positions at institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Case Western Reserve University, and Stony Brook University.
Dr. Lundeen holds a Ph.D. in art history and communications from McGill University, with a dissertation focusing on feminist theory and social identity development.
President Dianne Lynch: A Legacy of Excellence
President Lynch’s tenure since 2009 has been marked by remarkable achievements, including securing a $2.5 million annual donation in perpetuity, effectively doubling the college’s endowment.
She also spearheaded the establishment of the School for Health Sciences and introduced innovative programs like the Bachelor of Science in Animal Behavior.
