Two-Vehicle Crash In West Central Emporia Sends One To Newman Hospital Wednesday Evening

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision in West Central Emporia on Wednesday evening.

The accident was reported shortly before 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Gloria Street, a location that often sees steady evening traffic.

What Happened: Details of the Collision

According to a statement from the Emporia Police Department, a Dodge Durango was heading west on 12th Avenue when an eastbound Ford Focus attempted to make a left turn onto Gloria Street.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Focus failed to yield the right-of-way, resulting in the vehicles colliding in the intersection.

The force of the impact pushed the Focus off the roadway and into the front yard of a nearby residence on the northwest corner of the intersection.

In addition to vehicle damage, a decorative fence on the private property was also damaged during the crash. Authorities say a complete assessment of the property and vehicle damage is still pending.

Injuries and Medical Response

Emergency responders were quickly on the scene to assess the condition of all individuals involved. The driver of the Dodge Durango sustained what were described as minor injuries and was transported to Newman Regional Health for precautionary evaluation and treatment.

The driver and passenger of the Ford Focus did not appear to be injured and declined transport to the hospital. Both parties were evaluated at the scene and released by first responders.

Investigation Still Ongoing

At this time, the names of the individuals involved have not been released by authorities. The Emporia Police Department noted that the incident remains under investigation, and no citations have been issued yet.

Officers are reviewing statements and possible traffic footage to determine whether charges or traffic violations will follow.

Officials remind drivers to exercise caution, particularly at intersections, and to always yield appropriately to avoid such incidents.
