On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Emporia High School softball team faced a challenging doubleheader against Topeka High at Peter Pan Park. 

The Lady Spartans were swept by the Trojans, with game scores of 4-1 and 11-1, respectively. Despite the losses, the team showcased moments of resilience and determination.

Game One: Early Lead Slips Away

Emporia High started strong in the first game, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when junior Molly Williams scored on a wild pitch. 

However, Topeka High responded with two runs in the third inning and added one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, securing a 4-1 victory.

  • Atlyn Heffron went 2-for-3 at the plate, demonstrating consistent hitting.
  • Alivia Barrett pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on five hits and recording three strikeouts.

Game Two: Topeka High’s Offense Overwhelms

In the second game, Topeka High’s offense proved formidable, scoring multiple runs across several innings. The Trojans tallied two runs in the first inning, two in the third, and four in the fourth before Emporia managed to score. 

Junior Ryane Howe crossed home plate on a wild pitch, marking the Lady Spartans’ sole run. Topeka added one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, culminating in an 11-1 win.
