Kansas City is embracing the pickleball craze with the grand opening of SW19 at the Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility developed by Community Builders of Kansas City (CBKC).
Located at the former CoCo Key Water Resort, this $6.5 million transformation offers eight indoor pickleball courts, a restaurant, bar, and community spaces, aiming to become a central hub for both casual players and professionals.
A New Chapter for a Familiar Landmark
The once-vacant CoCo Key Water Resort has been revitalized into a modern pickleball venue. The facility features:
- Eight indoor pickleball courts equipped with PlaySight technology for game recording and analysis.
- A full-service restaurant and bar, providing a social atmosphere for players and visitors.
- Two private lounges available for reservation, catering to events and gatherings.
- Design elements reflecting the KC Stingers’ team colors, enhancing team spirit and local pride.
“Now it’s like, whoa, the difference is dramatic,” said Emmet Pierson Jr., CEO of CBKC, highlighting the significant transformation of the space.
Community-Centric Vision
SW19 at the Stadium is not just a sports facility; it’s a community initiative. The venue aims to:
- Provide an inclusive environment for players of all ages and skill levels.
- Offer programs for youth engagement, including after-school activities and potential scholarship pathways.
- Serve as the home court for the KC Stingers, Kansas City’s professional pickleball team.
“It is a family welcoming environment. Come out. Get fit together. Play together, and pass the word on,” Pierson emphasized, reflecting the facility’s community-focused mission.
Future Developments
The opening of SW19 at the Stadium is part of a broader redevelopment plan for the area:
- The adjacent Adam’s Mark Hotel is set to partially reopen by the 2026 World Cup, accommodating visitors and players.
- Long-term plans include converting the hotel into a mixed-use property with 250 housing units, down from the original 385 rooms, representing a $90 million investment.
“Eventually we’ll bring some units on or some rooms on from the hotel, because when people come to the tournaments, they want to stay close,” Pierson noted, emphasizing the convenience for tournament attendees.
