Adrien Dumont de Chassart Shoots Historic 59 at Wichita Open

Adrien Dumont de Chassart, a rising Belgian golf talent, etched his name into the Korn Ferry Tour record books on Thursday by firing an 11-under-par 59 during the opening round of the Wichita Open.

His performance marks only the 14th sub-60 round in tour history, setting the tone for what could be a breakthrough week at Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Kansas.

Breaking the Crestview Course Record

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate golf at the University of Illinois, shattered the course record of 60, previously set by Justin Suh in the 2022 final round and matched by Alejandro Tosti in 2023.

With 12 birdies and just one bogey, Dumont de Chassart showcased exceptional control, accuracy, and poise on a course that had been impacted by recent storms.

Thanks to preferred lies being in effect—allowing players to lift, clean, and place their golf balls in the fairway due to soggy conditions—scoring opportunities were plentiful, and Dumont de Chassart took full advantage.

“Honestly, with all the rain and storms they got, I thought the course was in really good shape,” he said. “The greens were rolling nice. You still got some bounces, which is impressive with all that rain. It was a perfect day to shoot 59, that’s for sure.”

Record in Context: Rare Company in Tour History

While impressive, Dumont de Chassart’s round is not the lowest ever recorded on the Korn Ferry Tour. That distinction belongs to Cristobal del Solar, who fired a 13-under 57 at the 2023 Astara Golf Championship.

Other notable ultra-low scores on the tour include Frankie Capan III and Stephan Jaeger, both of whom have posted rounds of 58.

Still, joining the elite group of sub-60 scorers remains a rare feat, and Dumont de Chassart’s round will be remembered as one of the best ever played at Crestview.

How the Round Unfolded

Starting on the back nine (No. 10), Dumont de Chassart opened hot, rolling in birdies on his first three holes. He continued his strong play with birdies at No. 14, a bogey at 15, and a bounce-back with birdies on 16 and 17 to make the turn at 5-under.

On the front nine, he elevated his game even further—birdieing the first five holes consecutively. His final birdie came at the par-3 8th, where he stuck a 6-iron close to the pin, setting up an easy putt.

“Played really well down the stretch,” he said. “I missed a short putt on 7, but that’s what makes golf great—you feel nerves even on a four-footer. I was happy to bounce back strong on 8 with that 6-iron shot.”

Taking the Lead at Crestview

By the end of his round, Dumont de Chassart held a four-shot lead over a group of five trailing players.

His dominant performance not only gave him a cushion atop the leaderboard but also reinforced his potential as a rising star on the Korn Ferry Tour.

This week’s performance also serves as a bit of redemption. In last year’s Wichita Open, Dumont de Chassart finished in a three-way playoff, ultimately losing to Ricky Castillo.

With a historic round already under his belt, the Belgian is well-positioned for a stronger finish this time around.

With near-perfect weather, soft conditions, and calm winds, Adrien Dumont de Chassart capitalized on every opportunity to make history.

His 59 at Crestview not only rewrote the course record but also injected excitement into the 2025 Wichita Open, signaling that this week could be a pivotal moment in his professional career.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on whether Dumont de Chassart can turn this red-hot start into a victory—and potentially a springboard to the PGA Tour.
