Parsons Man Kills Girlfriend, Then Himself in Domestic Violence Incident, Police Say

A 36-year-old man, identified as Steve Antone McDonald, shot and killed his girlfriend during a domestic violence incident early Saturday morning in Parsons, Kansas, before turning the gun on himself, according to the Parsons Police Department.

Gunfire Reported After Screams in Residential Area

Police were dispatched around 1:27 a.m. to the 1100 block of Richard Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported screaming followed by two gunshots.

Responding officers found a woman deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s name.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was domestic in nature,” police stated in an official news release.

Juvenile Witness Details Domestic Abuse

Investigators interviewed the woman’s juvenile son, who reported that an argument between McDonald and his mother turned violent.According to the boy, McDonald struck him in the head, prompting his mother to flee the home.

McDonald reportedly chased her down the street, firing two shots, one of which fatally struck her.

Suspect Flees Scene in Victim’s Vehicle

Following the shooting, McDonald returned to the house briefly before fleeing in the victim’s white 2000 Cadillac Escalade.

Law enforcement issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for McDonald and the vehicle.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office later located the Escalade near Severy, Kansas. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, McDonald fled, initiating a brief pursuit before crashing the vehicle.

Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound Ends Manhunt

Deputies approached the crashed vehicle and discovered McDonald had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency medical efforts, he died from his injury at the scene, according to Parsons police.

McDonald’s History of Domestic Violence Revealed

Police revealed that McDonald had a recent and serious history of domestic abuse. On April 24, 2025, he was arrested on multiple charges, including:

  • Aggravated domestic battery
  • Aggravated kidnapping
  • Criminal threat
  • Criminal damage to property
  • Endangering a child

He was released on bond on May 15, 2025. Authorities confirmed he had been living in Parsons with the victim, although he originally came from the Kansas City area.
