The City of Emporia has provided an update on its ongoing Southeast Transmission Main Waterline Improvement Project, which officially began during the week of June 9.
Construction initially started near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Garfield Street.
Work Zone and Traffic Impact
Crews are currently working:
- Westward along 7th Avenue toward Sunnyslope Street
- Eastward along 7th Avenue to Arundel Street
- Southward on Garfield Street to 6th Avenue
- Northward on Garfield Street to 9th Avenue
Because the waterline installation runs along street curbs, no parking signs are posted in the immediate construction areas.
Project Scope and Timeline
The large-scale improvement project includes:
- Over 24,000 linear feet of new water mains (ranging from 4” to 20”)
- 223 new service lines and other essential components
Work is expected to continue through fall 2026, weather permitting.
Public Safety Reminder
Residents are urged to:
- Use caution when driving through construction zones
- Follow all posted traffic signs
- Consider alternate routes to avoid delays
The Southeast Transmission Main Waterline Improvement Project marks a significant investment in Emporia’s infrastructure, aiming to enhance long-term water service reliability for residents.
While the construction may cause temporary inconveniences such as limited parking and traffic adjustments, the outcome will provide upgraded utilities and improved service delivery.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed, follow traffic advisories, and practice caution in the work zones as the project continues through fall 2026.
