A Kansas City police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a vehicle crash on Wednesday in Westport, the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard, according to a press release by Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Details of the Collision
Preliminary findings indicate that a marked police vehicle, equipped with emergency lights, was heading eastbound on Westport Road as it assisted in the pursuit of a suspect in a stolen vehicle. To bypass traffic, the police vehicle crossed into both eastbound and westbound lanes of Westport Road.
As the vehicle made a right turn onto Broadway Boulevard, it collided with a gray Volkswagen Passat that was also traveling east on Westport Road.
Injuries and Vehicle Occupants
Fortunately, the driver and passenger of the Volkswagen Passat were uninjured, along with the driver and rear-seat passenger of the police vehicle.
However, the front-seat passenger of the police car, identified as a KCPD officer, was transported to a nearby hospital. The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, and they are currently reported to be in stable condition.
