Authorities in Lenexa, Kansas, are actively searching for a woman suspected of animal cruelty, following a disturbing incident captured on surveillance footage.
The Lenexa Police Department posted a video to its official Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, which shows the suspect walking with a dog before committing a violent act.
Dog Struck Repeatedly and Left Behind
According to investigators, the video clearly depicts the woman striking the dog multiple times, ultimately injuring the animal—most notably causing damage to one of its eyes.
Shortly after the abuse, the woman is seen abandoning the injured dog in a treeline near a business located in the 9100 block of Rosehill Road.
Prior to leaving the dog, the suspect was also seen walking through the Old Town Lenexa area, suggesting that she may be familiar with the neighborhood or live nearby, officials said.
Dog Rescued and Now Up for Adoption
The abused animal has been identified as a male pit bull, approximately two years old, with a gray and white coat.
Despite the mistreatment, animal control officers described the dog as friendly and approachable.
After being rescued, he was placed in the care of Great Plains SPCA, where he is now available for adoption.
This incident has sparked public outrage and increased calls for justice and better protections against animal abuse.
Authorities Urge Public Assistance
Lenexa police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the woman’s identity or whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Lenexa Animal Control line at 913-477-7385.
