A devastating crash in Emporia has claimed the life of a 36-year-old local resident after what police believe may have been a medical emergency that triggered a high-speed, multi-vehicle collision on the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, 2025.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., officers from the Emporia Police Department responded to reports of a serious crash in the 100 block of North Main Street.
Following an initial investigation, authorities concluded that Robert Walker, Jr., aged 36, was driving a 2020 Nissan southbound on Route 301 at a dangerously high rate of speed.
Witnesses and police reports indicate that Walker sped through several intersections without slowing down.

Walker’s vehicle first collided with a 2009 Honda, driven by 74-year-old Deborah Jones, also of Emporia. The impact forced the Nissan off the road, where it struck a parked 2006 Honda near Main Street Auto.
The force of the crash was so severe that it required an emergency response from Greensville Volunteer Fire Department, who worked swiftly to extract all individuals trapped inside the wrecked vehicles.
