A Wichita man, Larry Ingram, is challenging his life sentence plus 1,027 months—equivalent to 160 years and 7 months in prison—after being convicted in two separate criminal cases. His legal counsel officially submitted the appeal on Tuesday, a day after sentencing was handed down.
Case 1: Wife’s Murder in 2023
Details of the Incident
On the night of December 21, 2023, police in Wichita were called to the 7000 block of E. 32nd Street North following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found 23-year-old Deniq Ingram suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Claim and Charges
Court filings revealed that Larry Ingram told investigators he believed his wife was an intruder after hearing a noise in the apartment. Despite his claim, he was charged with second-degree murder and violating a protection order. In this case, he received a sentence of 493 months in prison.
Case 2: Conviction on 17 Sex Offenses
Background and Testimony
Prior to the fatal shooting, Deniq had been subpoenaed to testify in a separate case involving longstanding rape and abuse allegations against Ingram.
These crimes were committed between 2014 and 2019, during a time when Ingram was reportedly her stepfather, prior to later marrying her.
Charges and Conviction
In December 2024, a jury convicted Ingram on 17 serious charges, including:
- Two counts of rape of a child
- Five counts of rape
- One count of aggravated criminal sodomy with a child
- One count of aggravated criminal sodomy
- Two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child
- One count of aggravated assault
- One count of battery
- One count of aggravated incest
- Three counts of aggravated intimidation of a witness
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office confirmed these crimes involved multiple victims, and that Ingram had used his familial connection to gain access and exert control.
In this case, Ingram was sentenced to life in prison plus 534 months, which is to be served consecutively with the sentence in the murder case.
Larry Ingram’s combined sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, including the murder of his wife and a series of sexual offenses committed over a five-year span.
With his legal team now filing an appeal, the courts will once again review a case that has left a lasting impact on the Wichita community.
Whether his sentence will be altered remains to be seen, but the details of these two cases have already drawn significant public and legal scrutiny.
