Emporia State Football Unveils August Practice Schedule, Special Nights for Fans

As August arrives, Emporia State Football is gearing up for an exciting new season. The 127th season of Hornet Football is about to begin, and fans, students, and players are all ready for the action. Training camp officially kicks off on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with players reporting and getting ready for a month of focused practices, special events, and team-building activities.

Training Camp Launch: Reporting and First Practices

The training camp officially starts on Saturday, August 2, when the players arrive on campus. The next day, Sunday, August 3, is reserved for important team meetings and compliance sessions. Then on Monday, August 4 at 9:20 a.m., the Hornets will take the field for their first official practice at Jones Field at Welch Stadium.

This first week is all about getting back into rhythm with practices in helmets only. As the days go by, players will gradually move to shells (light pads) and then finally to full pads.

Full Pads Practice Begins

The first practice with full football pads will happen on Friday, August 8. By this time, the team will be going full speed, and coaches will evaluate individual positions such as quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, linemen, and specialists.

There will be regular post-practice sessions with different position groups, allowing coaches to help players improve on their skills and teamwork.

Special Events and Booster Night

One of the biggest events during training camp is Booster Night on Friday, August 15, where selected boosters get a chance to meet the Hornet players. This special practice is also open to the public, giving fans a chance to preview the team in full action.

Another exciting moment is the Football Media Day, happening on Sunday, August 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Welch Stadium. This gives local media a behind-the-scenes look at the team before the season kicks off.

Back-to-School Block Party and Student Night

Emporia State is bringing energy to campus with a special Back to School Block Party on Monday, August 18, followed by a Monday Night Football practice just for students. This student-exclusive event offers a fun way to connect with the team and build school spirit right as classes begin.

Hornet Talk and Final Practices

On Monday, August 25, the team will host the newly updated Hornet Talk event at 627 Bar & Grill in downtown Emporia. Fans can hear from coaches and players just days before the opening game.

First Game of the Season: Hornets vs. Minot State

Game day arrives on Thursday, August 28, as the Hornets take on Minot State in the first MIAA Television Game of the Week. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m. at Welch Stadium. Fans can enjoy the Hornet Walk at 4:00 p.m., and the Live at the Hive tailgate starts at 4:30 p.m.
