The 2025 Emporia State Volleyball season is almost here, and excitement is building around the Hornets’ program. After delivering their best season in over a decade, the team is ready to take the next step toward championship contention.
With a strong mix of experienced leaders, talented newcomers, and a coaching staff determined to push higher, the Hornets enter this fall with momentum, confidence, and a clear mission.
Recapping a Breakthrough Season
Last year was a turning point for Emporia State. The Hornets finished with a 17-10 overall record and a 9-7 mark in MIAA play, advancing to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
It was the program’s first winning season since 2014 and their highest win total since 2013. Along the way, standout outside hitter Weronika Wrzesinska earned first-team All-MIAA honors, marking the program’s first such recognition in over a decade.
That successful campaign laid the foundation for an even bigger leap in 2025.
Training Camp Sets the Tone
As the new season approaches, training camp intensity has been sky-high. Players returned a week early for open gym sessions, a move that boosted team chemistry and set high standards right from day one.
Junior setter Brailee Bogle emphasized that the team’s ceiling is higher than ever:
“Everything is going well. The sky’s the limit for us. I want us to push deeper into the MIAA tournament and crack the top 25 this year.”
With two more exhibition tournaments before the season opener, the Hornets are working to fine-tune their offense, defense, and rotations.
Key Players to Watch
The Hornets face the challenge of replacing Wrzesinska’s production, but several athletes are stepping up:
- Camilla Ossola (Senior Hitter) – An experienced leader who has embraced a larger role, Ossola has proven she can score consistently and lead by example.
- Brailee Bogle (Junior Setter) – The heartbeat of the offense, she runs a fast-paced system that keeps opponents on their heels.
- Newcomers – A wave of fresh talent brings height, athleticism, and scoring power, giving Emporia State more offensive options than ever before.
This balance of veteran leadership and youthful energy gives the Hornets depth across all positions.
Coach Murczek’s Vision
Head Coach Ken Murczek, entering his third year, has emphasized the importance of finishing higher in the MIAA standings. His strategy is clear:
- Avoid early-round matchups against nationally ranked teams by securing a top-four conference finish.
- Build an aggressive, fast-tempo offense that allows hitters to swing hard and take control of rallies.
- Strengthen team chemistry by encouraging accountability and leadership within the roster.
His approach has already produced back-to-back All-MIAA hitters, proving that the system works.
Offensive Firepower
Emporia State’s offensive system is built around speed and aggression. Running a fast offensive set allows hitters to exploit mismatches, and players with heavy arms thrive in this setup.
Senior hitter Ossola put it simply:
“If you stay aggressive and use the right techniques, you’re going to do great.”
With multiple scoring threats on the roster, the Hornets are positioned to overwhelm opponents with depth and variety.
Team Chemistry & Newcomers
One of the Hornets’ biggest strengths is their togetherness. The decision to come back early for workouts showed their commitment to team goals. New players are blending in seamlessly, challenging veterans while maintaining strong chemistry.
The locker room unity and shared belief in pushing the program forward could make the difference in close matches throughout the season.
The Road Ahead
The Hornets open the season on September 4 at the San Diego Invitational, facing top competition to set the tone for the year. Their home opener at White Auditorium later in September will give fans a chance to see the team in action on their home court.
The schedule is filled with opportunities to prove themselves against tough MIAA opponents, but with momentum from last year and newfound confidence, Emporia State is primed to make a deeper postseason run.
The 2025 Emporia State Volleyball team is entering the season with power, passion, and purpose. Last year’s breakout success has raised expectations, and this squad looks ready to deliver.
With a proven coaching strategy, emerging leaders, and a roster full of talent, the Hornets have everything they need to push toward the MIAA’s top tier and potentially crack the national rankings.
The journey won’t be easy, but this team has made it clear: they are ready to fight, compete, and chase championships.
