In the early hours of Friday morning, a violent assault in north Wichita turned fatal, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Officers from the Wichita Police Department (WPD) were dispatched to the scene following a distress call reporting an attack in progress.
Location and Initial Discovery
The incident occurred in the 3000 block of North Fairview, near the intersection of Broadway and 29th Street. A witness alerted authorities after observing a man assaulting another individual, later identified as 33-year-old Cesar Gonzalez.
When officers arrived, they found Gonzalez unresponsive in a parking lot and immediately transported him to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries around 2 a.m. on Friday.
Suspect Located and Arrested
The attacker fled the scene prior to police arrival. However, officers were able to locate the suspect shortly after in the 300 block of W. 29th Street, not far from where the assault occurred.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, a male resident of Wichita, had sustained injuries matching the nature of the incident.
He was also taken to the hospital for treatment before being formally arrested on a murder charge. He is now being held at the Sedgwick County Jail.
