Early Morning Fire Forces Temporary Closure of Beloved Southwest Missouri Café

A cherished local eatery in southwest Missouri, Cooky’s Cafe, has been forced to shut down temporarily following an early morning fire that caused smoke and water damage.

The incident has left the community saddened as the iconic café, in operation since 1942, pauses service during recovery.

Fire Breaks Out at Cooky’s Cafe

Around 5:00 a.m., the Golden City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Cooky’s Cafe, located at 519 Main Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found the building empty and quickly entered to assess the situation.

According to Fire Chief Eric White, the fire originated in the oven area, and firefighters were able to contain it before it spread further throughout the establishment.

Mutual Aid Brings Quick Response

Thanks to coordinated efforts and mutual aid from Jasper Fire and Rescue and the Lamar Fire Department, the blaze was brought under control by 5:30 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Chief White praised the rapid response and teamwork that helped minimize structural damage, despite the significant smoke and water impact.

Café Temporarily Closed for Repairs

Although the fire was contained quickly, Cooky’s Cafe will remain closed until further notice due to the extensive damage.

As a cornerstone of the Golden City community for more than 80 years, the news has prompted an outpouring of support from loyal patrons.

The café shared an update via Facebook, reassuring customers:

“A small fire this morning resulted in smoke and water damage. Everyone is fine, so no worries there.

Cooky’s Cafe, a beloved family-owned establishment with a long-standing history in Golden City, is taking time to recover from an early morning fire that fortunately caused no injuries, thanks to the swift response of local fire crews.

While the community eagerly awaits its reopening, the owners are committed to restoring the space and resuming service as soon as safely possible.
