In a remarkable display of resilience and strategic play, the Emporia High Spartans baseball team secured a 5-4 upset over the eighth-ranked Spring Hill Broncos during the Emporia Baseball Classic on Friday, May 9, 2025. 

This victory not only highlights the Spartans’ growth throughout the season but also underscores their potential as formidable contenders in Class 5A.

Facing the defending Class 5A runners-up, the Spartans entered the game with determination. Emporia High initiated the scoring early, establishing a 2-0 lead in the first inning, propelled by an RBI single from Madden Seidl

However, the Broncos responded with two runs in the fourth inning and seized a 3-2 advantage in the fifth.

The Spartans capitalized on a Spring Hill error in the bottom of the fifth, reclaiming a 4-3 lead. An insurance run in the sixth, scored by Luke Pitman on a wild pitch, extended the lead to 5-3. 

Despite a late push from Spring Hill in the seventh inning, Chase Harrington secured the win with his second save of the season, ensuring the Spartans’ triumph.
