Emporia Mourns Beloved Teacher Rebecca Rauber Found Dead

The small city of Emporia came together on Monday night to honor the life of Rebecca Rauber, a beloved second-grade teacher who was found dead after going missing over the weekend.

What began as a hopeful vigil praying for her safe return turned into a heartfelt gathering to remember her life and support one another.

Neil Taylor, pastor of Emporia’s Church of Christ, said,

“We were not planning to be here like this, but the community needs to come together. The community needs this time to mourn together, and hopefully through this time we can heal together.”

Remembering a Teacher Full of Joy and Compassion

Rebecca Rauber will be remembered for her joyful spirit and caring nature. People who knew her described her as someone who could make any moment brighter.

Jackie Spillman-Boesche, a colleague, shared:

“She was just so happy all the time. No matter what we were doing, even in a boring meeting, she would have a smile on her face. She was just a good person.”

Her love for her students at Riverside Elementary School was clear to everyone. She cared deeply for each child, helping them through challenges and teaching them patience and love.

Brandi Taylor, a friend and fellow teacher, said:

“She loved everyone with everything she had, and she made them feel good. She was so happy. Many times, kids would have problems or big emotions, and even though it could be overwhelming, she would calmly say, ‘It’s okay, let’s breathe it out.’”

Supporting Students During a Difficult Time

The community is rallying to support the children who lost their beloved teacher. Rauber was not just a teacher; she was a mentor and a source of happiness for her students.

“For somebody like Rebecca who brought so much joy, who taught our children, who showed them love that maybe they never saw, we especially should mourn,” said Pastor Taylor.
