Emporia Truck Driver Involved in Injury Crash in Montgomery County

An accident occurred in southeast Kansas on Wednesday, involving a semi-truck driver from Emporia and a passenger SUV.

The collision took place on US Highway 400 near the intersection with US-169 in Montgomery County.

Details of the Accident

At approximately 5:15 pm, the crash occurred when 34-year-old Joel Amos of Emporia, driving westbound on US Highway 400, collided with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The SUV, driven by 78-year-old Patricia Pickering of Pittsburg, was heading eastbound.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded when Pickering’s SUV crossed over the center line, although the exact reason for this remains unspecified.

Evasive Action Taken by Semi Driver

In response to the oncoming SUV, Amos attempted to maneuver his semi-truck off the westbound lanes by steering toward the shoulder.

However, Pickering’s SUV also veered onto the same shoulder, leading to the collision between the SUV and the semi-truck with its attached trailer.

Injuries and Aftermath

Patricia Pickering was transported to Labette Health in Parsons, where she was treated for suspected minor injuries.

Joel Amos, the semi-truck driver, was unharmed in the incident. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The crash involving the Emporia semi driver and the SUV occurred due to the SUV crossing into the westbound lane, but thankfully, the incident resulted in only minor injuries for one of the drivers. Both drivers’ adherence to seatbelt safety likely played a role in minimizing harm during this unfortunate event.
