On July 17, 2025, a group of motivated students from the Aim High Flight Academy arrived at Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
This visit was part of their unique educational journey designed to give them firsthand exposure to Air Force operations, aviation technology, and military career opportunities.
What Is the Aim High Flight Academy?
The Aim High Flight Academy is an Air Force-sponsored initiative that targets high school students interested in aviation.
The program offers hands-on flight training while also fostering one-on-one connections with experienced Air Force mentors.
Its core goal is to inspire the next generation of pilots, navigators, and aviation professionals by immersing them in real-world experiences that highlight both the technical skills and leadership qualities essential for a future in military service.
Immersive Learning at Altus Air Force Base
During their visit to Altus AFB, the students had a rare opportunity to fly aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker—a military aerial refueling aircraft—with members of the 54th Air Refueling Squadron.
This unique flight experience allowed them to observe in-air refueling operations, crew coordination, and the advanced aeronautical systems used in real missions.
Tours of Key Facilities
In addition to the flight, the students were guided through several critical operations centers on the base, including:
- Air Traffic Control Tower – where they learned how personnel safely coordinate takeoffs and landings.
- Radar Approach Control Center – which provided insight into how radar technology helps monitor and direct aircraft movements in and around the airspace.
These behind-the-scenes tours offered valuable lessons about the many roles that support successful flight operations within the Air Force.
