Gore Family Challenges OG&E Over Incorrect Streetlight Billing

Gore Family Challenges OG&E Over Incorrect Streetlight Billing

In Gore, Oklahoma, the Jorgensen family has spent nearly 30 years in the parrot business. At one point, Jane Jorgensen housed over 300 birds.

“Now we’re just down to two — Sam and Frosty,” said Jane. “Sam is my baby, and he knows it.”

A Phrase That Keeps Repeating

But the phrase that’s been repeating in their household lately isn’t coming from the birds. It’s a line they say they’ve heard repeatedly from OG&E:
“It’s your responsibility.”

That response was in reference to a streetlight on the edge of their property — one the family claims they don’t own, yet have been billed for over several years.

“They kept charging us for a light that isn’t ours,” said Valeria Jorgensen.

OG&E’s Delayed Response

Each time they raised the issue, the electric utility company allegedly gave the same canned reply:

“We’ll send an investigator,”
— but according to the Jorgensens, no one ever showed up.

In frustration, they even contacted the town of Gore, where officials reportedly confirmed:

“No, the town pays for that light.”

Mounting Charges

The family estimates they’ve been wrongly charged anywhere between $450 and over $1,000 for the streetlight.

Feeling stuck, they contacted News Channel 8, which then reached out to OG&E on their behalf.

“The moment your station emailed them, I got a phone call,” said Valeria.

OG&E Responds After Media Involvement

OG&E issued a statement saying:

“After reviewing the account in question, we’ve spoken directly with the customer and are actively working toward a resolution.”

Valeria noted, “If it weren’t for you, I’d still be fighting for a refund.”

While the final refund amount is still being determined, the Jorgensen family finally feels heard — and more optimistic than ever.

What was once a frustrating back-and-forth with the utility provider has now turned into hopeful resolution, thanks to media support.
