GRAND Mental Health has launched a mobile mental health clinic to provide crucial services directly to rural communities across Eastern Oklahoma.
In collaboration with the Oklahoma Caring Foundation and BlueCross BlueShield, this new initiative aims to eliminate the barriers to accessing mental health care in remote areas.
A Clinic on Wheels for Immediate Outreach
The clinic van, a key part of this pilot program, is designed to deliver on-site support and screenings to individuals in need. Amy Garrison, GRAND’s Chief Officer for the northeastern region, explained that the idea stemmed from the long distances many residents in rural counties must travel to get help.
“In some areas, people have to drive 70 to 100 miles to reach a clinic,” Garrison noted. “This van helps us deliver care directly into communities that need it most.”
Counties Covered and Services Offered
The mobile clinic will regularly travel through Craig, Delaware, Mayes, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Tulsa, Nowata, Rogers, and Washington counties, offering support Monday through Friday. Services include:
- Free mental health screenings and consultations
- Support for housing and employment placement
- Information and access to mental health resources
People can walk up to the clinic, learn about available services, and even start the screening process on the spot.
A Symbol of Hope and Connection
The van’s design features puzzle piece artwork, symbolizing the critical role mental health plays in our overall well-being.
“Mental health is a key piece of the health puzzle,” said Brooke Townsend, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Caring Foundation. “This mobile unit represents our commitment to connecting those missing pieces for people across Green Country.”
The GRAND Mental Health mobile clinic is a transformative solution to address mental health disparities in rural Oklahoma.
By driving care into the heart of underserved regions, this initiative is breaking down geographic and social barriers to ensure everyone has access to essential mental health services.
It’s a promising step forward in making mental health care more inclusive, accessible, and community-focused.
