Timeline of Attacks

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the crimes occurred between May and June 2023, involving three separate female victims. Two of the survivors underwent sexual assault forensic exams at local hospitals.

First Reported Incident: May 17, 2023

Kansas City police responded to a robbery call near 89th Terrace and Michigan Avenue.

A woman told officers she had arranged to meet Riley at an Independence motel to sell him her iPhone. After he picked her up, he drove her to the location where:

  • He allegedly brandished a knife
  • Disabled location services on her phone
  • Stole her phone, cash, and Taser

Following this report, police linked Riley to two similar cases.

Second Reported Incident: May 22–23, 2023

The second victim contacted police from a hospital after reporting a sexual assault.

She said she met Riley through an escort dating service on May 22 and agreed to meet him at the same 89th Terrace and Michigan Avenue location.

Court documents state that once inside her car:

  • Riley demanded her CashApp information
  • When she refused, he punched her in the face
  • He restrained her, searched her belongings, and found the gun she carried
  • He had both a knife and a firearm with him

Prosecutors say Riley then raped her three times before fleeing.

Third Reported Incident: June 16–17, 2023

On June 17, police were called to a QuikTrip after a woman reported being robbed and sexually assaulted.

She told investigators she was visiting Kansas City with friends the day before and met Riley through a dating app. While they were driving:

  • Riley instructed her to pull into a dark, secluded, wooded area
  • He pointed both a knife and gun at her
  • Threatened to kill her
  • Forced her to transfer money from her CashApp to his while holding a gun to her head

The victim said Riley raped her, then drove to a second location and assaulted her again before leaving.

The guilty plea from Dairon Lee Riley closes a disturbing chapter involving multiple violent crimes against women in Kansas City. His 21-year sentence reflects the severity of the charges and the traumatic experiences endured by the victims.

As prosecutors continue to emphasize the importance of reporting such crimes, the case stands as a reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who exploit online encounters for criminal purposes.
