On April 27, 2025, Kansas City Fire Department’s firefighter-paramedic Graham Hoffman tragically lost his life while assisting a patient during an overtime shift.
In response, HeroFundUSA established the Graham Hoffman Firefighter Paramedic Scholarship Fund to honor his commitment and sacrifice.
This fund aims to support individuals pursuing accredited firefighter or paramedic training programs, which typically cost between $8,000 and $10,000 over 12 to 18 months.
Community Support: Kansas City Restaurants Step Up
From May 2 to May 4, 2025, members of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association (GKCRA) are participating in a fundraising campaign to support the scholarship fund. Participating restaurants will donate 10% of their sales during this period.
Sam Silvio, owner of Em Chamas Brazilian Grill and brother to a KCFD captain, collaborated with HeroFundUSA CEO Darrell Smith to initiate this campaign.
With the blessing of the Hoffman family, the scholarship fund was established to keep Graham’s memory alive and inspire future first responders.

Additional Ways to Support
For those unable to dine at participating restaurants, donations to the Graham Hoffman Firefighter Paramedic Scholarship Fund can be made directly through HeroFundUSA’s website.
Additionally, Pro Apparel KC is selling KCFD Graham Hoffman Memorial Hats, with proceeds benefiting the Hoffman family. The online store for this item will remain open until May 12, 2025.
The Kansas City community’s response to the loss of Graham Hoffman exemplifies unity and support.
Through collaborative efforts, including restaurant fundraisers and merchandise sales, residents are honoring Hoffman’s legacy and aiding aspiring first responders.
These initiatives not only commemorate a dedicated firefighter-paramedic but also invest in the safety and preparedness of future emergency personnel.
