With funeral services for former Vice President Dick Cheney now concluded, Kansas residents can again fly their flags at full-staff.
On Thursday, Governor Laura Kelly announced that flags should be raised fully starting at sunrise on Friday.
Period Of Mourning
Flags across the state had been lowered to half-staff since November 4, the day after Cheney passed away at the age of 84.
Under the governor’s executive order, flags were instructed to remain lowered until sundown on the day of interment, which took place Thursday.
Honoring Dick Cheney’s Service
Dick Cheney was laid to rest this week, closing a chapter recognizing his extensive history in U.S. public service.
Cheney served two terms as vice president under President George W. Bush and held several significant government roles prior to that, including:
- Wyoming congressman
- White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford
- Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush
His career spanned decades and included leadership roles that influenced national security and governmental policy.
With the completion of Dick Cheney’s funeral proceedings, Kansas will return its flags to full-staff as directed by Governor Laura Kelly.
Cheney’s distinguished political career, which featured senior leadership positions over several administrations, has been widely acknowledged as the state and nation conclude the official period of mourning.
