Local Liquor Store Set to Open in Former Lenexa Furniture Store Location

Philip Jiang is no stranger to the world of entrepreneurship. Over the past ten years, he has carved out a solid reputation as a restaurateur in Johnson County, Kansas.

His initial foray into the hospitality industry began with the launch of Toro Hibachi Sushi & Asian in Overland Park in 2016, a Japanese steakhouse and sushi restaurant that quickly gained popularity.

He followed up with a second, more fast-casual dining concept, expanding his portfolio in the food and beverage industry.

Introducing 87 Wine and Spirits: A Fresh Take on a Neighborhood Liquor Store

Now, Jiang is turning his entrepreneurial energy toward retail liquor sales with his newest venture: 87 Wine and Spirits. Named in a nod to its Lenexa location, Jiang chose the name for its memorable and approachable quality.

“I wanted something that people could remember, because we are local,” Jiang explained.

By focusing on branding that feels both familiar and distinct, Jiang aims to position 87 Wine and Spirits as a go-to neighborhood liquor store that blends convenience with a unique local identity.

Expanding the Local Experience with a Wholesale Edge

While Lenexa already offers a variety of liquor outlets, Jiang, along with store consultant Rob Crable, believes their store brings something new to the table.

Thanks to a larger retail footprint, 87 Wine and Spirits has the ability to stock a broader inventory, catering not just to walk-in customers, but to a wider wholesale network across Kansas.

Crable emphasized the store’s growth potential:

“That way, our reach won’t be limited to Lenexa — it could extend throughout Kansas. It’s also a great opportunity to create more jobs in the community.”

With the launch of 87 Wine and Spirits, Philip Jiang is bringing a new flavor to Lenexa’s business landscape. Blending local charm, a memorable brand, and an ambitious wholesale strategy, this liquor store is poised to become a regional staple.

The venture not only supports community employment but also aims to create a broad customer base throughout Kansas — a win for both the business and the neighborhood.
