The Madison Public Library is getting ready for its annual Trunk or Treat and Chili Feed event, which will take place on Saturday, October 25.
This fun community gathering is not just about Halloween treats and tasty food — it’s also about raising money to give the library a much-needed makeover after more than 20 years.
A Night of Family Fun and Giving
The event will run from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Families, friends, clubs, and local businesses are invited to decorate their cars and hand out candy during the Trunk or Treat. It’s a safe and exciting way for children to celebrate Halloween in a friendly environment.
At the same time, visitors can enjoy a Chili Feed inside the library. The meal will include chili, crackers, cinnamon rolls, and a drink. Instead of a fixed price, the library is asking for a free-will donation. All the money collected will help pay for upcoming renovation projects.
Anyone who wants to take part in the Trunk or Treat can contact the library by calling (620) 437-2634, visiting in person, or sending an email to madisonks.library@gmail.com.
Why the Library Needs Renovations
The Madison Library was built in 2003, and since then, there haven’t been any major updates. After more than two decades of use, many parts of the building have become worn down. The staff wants to make the space more comfortable, welcoming, and useful for everyone who visits.
Here is a simple look at the renovation plans:
Area | Planned Improvement |
---|---|
Carpets and Walls | New carpet installation and fresh paint to make the space brighter |
Shelving | Deeper shelves with front-facing bins for children’s books |
Quiet Space | Study tables and chairs for students or small groups |
Meeting/Social Area | Comfortable furniture for people to relax and talk |
Children’s Corner | A fun zone for storytime, play, and learning |
Neutral Space | A flexible meeting area with a small coffee bar |
Accessibility | Adding automatic doors for easier entry for everyone |
Building a Better Space for the Community
Librarian Christine Inman and the board members are leading this improvement project. They are applying for grants and planning more fundraising events to help cover costs. Their goal is to keep the library warm, modern, and welcoming for everyone.
The library is more than just a place for books — it is the heart of the Madison community. It provides a safe space for children to learn, students to study, and adults to connect.
It is also a meeting point for people to build friendships and take part in community programs. Over the years, many of the furniture and materials have become well-used, showing just how loved the library truly is.
