One Dead, Another Critically Injured in Highway 24 Crash in Topeka

A fatal accident on westbound Highway 24 just west of Rochester Road in Topeka has resulted in the death of a 22-year-old woman and left another woman seriously injured. The crash occurred on Friday, May 30, and involved two vehicles.

Details from Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Report

As per the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) crash report, the incident began when a vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 24 veered off the road.

In an attempt to regain control, the driver overcorrected to the left, which caused the vehicle to cross all eastbound lanes, drive through the median, and enter westbound traffic. There, it collided head-on with a vehicle traveling west.

Victim Identified and Injuries Confirmed

The KHP confirmed that Anya JoAnn Turner, a 22-year-old Topeka resident, was the driver of the eastbound vehicle that entered the westbound lanes. Turner sadly died at the scene due to the impact of the crash.

The driver of the second vehicle, 32-year-old Andria Nikkole Starr, also from Topeka, was rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Authorities have stated that both women were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

This heartbreaking event on Highway 24 serves as a reminder of how quickly road conditions and driving decisions can turn tragic.

With one life lost and another hanging in the balance, the community is left mourning and hoping for a full recovery for the surviving victim. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the crash to prevent similar incidents in the future.
