A new round of rain and isolated thunderstorms is spreading from south to north across Kansas tonight. Some areas may experience locally heavy rainfall, especially as the evening progresses.
By early Friday, the bulk of the precipitation will shift toward northern Kansas along and near I-70, while southern Kansas will still see scattered showers but with lower intensity and less coverage.
Healthy Rainfall Expected
Most locations are on track to pick up ½ inch to 1 inch of rain, though some will see slightly more or less depending on storm placement.
The system is expected to pull away to the east by Friday evening, taking the lingering rain with it.
Big Temperature Differences
A sharp temperature contrast will set up, with colder conditions in the northwest and warmer temperatures in the southeast, creating a range from the 30s to the 50s.
Cooler air continues to push through the region on Friday, and some places may record their warmest temperature just after midnight, remaining steady or falling during peak daytime hours.
Short-Lived Weekend Sunshine
More sunshine returns Saturday, but it won’t stick around long. Another weather system approaches from the southwest, bringing fresh rain chances Sunday into Monday.
Showers will first arrive in southwestern Kansas before spreading eastward overnight and into the start of the workweek.
Cold Front Brings A Winter Feel
A strong cold front arrives Tuesday, dropping high temperatures into the 40s for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the 20s and 30s.
While moisture amounts still need fine-tuning, current data suggests light flurries are possible, but there should not be enough to cause roadway problems for Thanksgiving travelers.

Kansas is set for a wet and changeable weather pattern, beginning with widespread rain and storms tonight and another system arriving by early next week.
The state will also experience a significant temperature drop, with a winter-like feel settling in by Thanksgiving.
While some light flurries may accompany the cold front, travel disruptions are not expected at this time. Forecasters will continue monitoring the pattern and update as needed.
