Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a rented U-Haul truck. Riverside police initiated a pursuit that extended into Kansas City, Missouri. Law enforcement deployed spike strips, successfully disabling the suspect’s vehicle on northbound I-29 near I-435.

Standoff and Shooting

After the vehicle was stopped, a 30-minute standoff ensued, during which officers attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender.

The suspect exited the vehicle and allegedly pointed a firearm at officers. In response, two Riverside police officers and one Platte County Sheriff’s deputy discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
