A Friday evening shooting at Dr. Glen Dey Park left three minors wounded and sparked a large-scale investigation into what police believe may have involved multiple shooters.
The incident occurred near 29th Street North and Grove during a large gathering that followed a pool party.
Chaos Unfolds in Crowded Park
According to Wichita police, a crowd of approximately 100 to 200 people had gathered in the park when gunfire erupted. Witnesses said the shooting happened suddenly, creating panic as people fled the area.
The three injured victims, all described only as juveniles, were transported by private vehicles to three different hospitals.
Police confirmed that all three are expected to survive their injuries. Specific details about their ages or identities have not yet been released.
Vehicles Crash Amid Panic
In the aftermath of the gunfire, two vehicles collided near the park as people attempted to escape the scene in a hurry. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in the crash.
Authorities say the collision is being treated as a secondary incident related to the chaos of the shooting.
Multiple Weapons Discharged
At the scene, police recovered shell casings of various calibers in both the parking lot and nearby street, indicating that more than one firearm may have been used.
“We’re still working to determine the number of shooters involved and identify all potential suspects,” a police spokesperson said.
Investigators believe the presence of different types of shell casings could point to multiple individuals firing weapons, though they have not confirmed how many suspects may be involved.
Search for Witnesses Continues
Police are urging anyone who attended the pool party or was present in the park at the time of the shooting to come forward.
Many witnesses left the area before officers arrived, and authorities say those individuals may hold critical information about the incident.
