Two Arrested After Short Pursuit in Cass County, Missouri

Authorities in Cass County, Missouri have arrested two individuals following a brief chase that began on the afternoon of Thursday, June 19.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies tried to pull over a vehicle with a stolen license plate around 1 p.m. near the intersection of 155th Street and North Scott Avenue in Belton.

Passenger Takes Over After Driver Detained

Just before the sheriff’s deputies arrived, Belton Police had stopped the car and placed the driver in custody.

However, the passenger then took control of the vehicle and sped away heading northbound on I-49, even though the car had sustained a flat tire due to a tire deflation device deployed by Belton officers.

Suspect Apprehended in Grandview

The suspect exited the highway at 140th Street in Grandview and abandoned the vehicle near 136th Street and Cambridge Avenue.

Shortly after, law enforcement officers from Cass County and Grandview Police Department located and arrested the suspect.

She was later identified as Victoria Willis, a 39-year-old resident of Grandview.

Charges and Bond Details

Willis now faces multiple charges, including:

  • A felony charge for aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, and
  • A misdemeanor for reckless and imprudent vehicle operation.

She is currently held in the Cass County Jail with a $25,000 cash-only bond.

The original driver, who was initially taken into custody by Belton police, is also being detained on a $25,000 cash bond.

The quick response by local law enforcement helped prevent further danger after an attempted traffic stop escalated into a brief but reckless pursuit.

Both individuals involved are now in custody, facing significant legal consequences for their actions.
