Two Men Face Aggravated Arson Charges Following Multiple Fire Incidents in Emporia

Two men have been taken into custody and are facing aggravated arson charges in connection with two separate fire incidents that occurred within a span of three days in Emporia, Kansas.

Incident at 10 West Grill and Dive Bar

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 10 West Grill and Dive Bar located on West 11th Avenue shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Although there was no active blaze upon arrival, authorities discovered evidence indicating a fire had taken place. Fortunately, staff at the establishment were able to extinguish the flames before the situation escalated.

Just two hours following the emergency response, Emporia Police arrested 26-year-old Uriel Sevilla. He is currently being held on suspicion of aggravated arson, and formal charges are expected to follow.

Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer confirmed that while the investigation is still underway, initial findings suggest the fire was deliberately set.

Second Fire at Apartment Complex on West 12th

In a separate but related incident, 30-year-old Mitchell Lindsey is also facing pending aggravated arson charges. He is alleged to have intentionally ignited a small kitchen fire late Thursday night at an apartment complex in the 100 block of West 12th Avenue.

Lindsey, who resides in Kansas City, has been identified as the primary suspect in this case. Authorities believe both cases may involve intentional and criminal acts of arson, although no official link between the two incidents has been confirmed.

Investigation Ongoing

The Emporia Fire Department and local police are continuing their investigations into both events. Fire Marshal Beemer noted that more information will be released as the investigations progress and formal charges are officially filed by the prosecutor’s office.

These incidents have raised concern within the Emporia community, highlighting the dangers of arson and the quick response of first responders in preventing more serious damage or injury.

The swift arrests of both suspects following these fire-related events demonstrate the vigilance of local authorities in addressing potential threats to public safety.

As investigations continue, the community awaits further updates regarding the formal proceedings and motives behind the alleged arson attempts.

Both incidents underscore the importance of prompt emergency response and thorough law enforcement coordination.
